interlude: spring

Friday

  • Bob Baker Marionettes 14:55 – 15:35
  • Wednesday 15:40-16:20
  • FOOD BREAK 16:20 – 17:05
  • Joyce Manor 17:10 – 17:50
  • CMAT 18:15 – 18:55
  • The XX 19:00 – 19:55
    • RATIONALE VS NINAJIRACHI
      • I’ve seen Ninajirachi before, she will play again
      • More of our group wants to see The XX; it’ll be easier to coordinate meeting with them if that’s the move
      • I can go straight to Turnstile right after w? Andrew if he comes to The XX
      • Nina will play again, likely at a rave where I’ll be with at least some of yall anyways cuz we’re Core Group also I’m #manifesting
      • The XX is outdoors for the first sunset of the weekend
      • The XX will likely never play again
      • The Nina line will be long – seeing her would mean missing some of CMAT’s set; this is not irrelevant
  • Turnstile 20:05 – 21:00
    • RATIONALE VS KATSEYE
      • Yes Katseye is imploding soon re Manon’s dropping the group (source: trust me) but I can catch them on stream for the two good songs they have and I’d probably enjoy it more in that format anyways re crowds/annoying fans/stage
      • Turnstile will throw down 10x harder
      • I actually like Turnstile’s music
      • Katseye is a more interesting cultural moment but I think overall Turnstile is the more textured experience for me personally
      • Andrew Europa shared experience
      • I missed them in 2023
      • If for whatever insane reason Turnstile is a bust I can catch the end of Katseye’s set which is right by the dolab; I’ll be headed there anyways for Jigitz.
  • Jigitz  21:15 – 22:30
  • Ethel Cain 22:35 -23:25
    • RATIONALE VS DISCLOSURE
      • Turns out not everyone will be at Disclosure > it won’t be the uniting friend group throwdown I initially thought it would be
      • I’ll be raving with this group PLENTY in like. A few weeks.
      • Ethel Cain is super special to me being one of the first acts I saw at my first Coachella. She’s blown up a ton in the meantime and I’ve been dying to see her new material live.
      • Last time she played an afternoon set in the Sonora; this is an outdoor set in the middle of the night. How moody is that?! If (when) she sings Nettles to the clouds of weed smoke and moonlight, I will dissolve
  • FINAL SET: Anyma VS Not For Radio VS Blood Orange VS Surprise DoLab
    • This is a gametime decision and I’m okay with it, happy with it even. Here’s why
    • Anyma was originally the clear pick because it would be a fun way to end the night as a group BUT with Karina and others going rails, there’s very little chance we’d be able to come together. This is okay! Maybe we can straggle together a subgroup of those not at rails, could be fun
    • Not For Radio is a solid choice but like with NJ the line will be out the door even as early as the end of Ethel’s set
    • Blood Orange is an exciting new artist for me AND easy enough access following Ethel. This is the pick if I’m gassed from the day and want to chill out and smoke.
    • Surprise set at the DoLab could be schnice (see: last year’s Sammi Virji). I would spring for Chris Lake, Max Styler, Chris Lorenzo, etc. The crowds will be easier, it’s right by the exit, and it would arguably be easiest to coordinate a meeting once everyone’s done at their respective sets.

REVIEW: Some really hard picks here but I’m actually the most confident about this day vs the others. The weekend 2 streams will do a lot of heavy lifting. On paper, a perfect day.

Saturday

  • Die Spitz 14:00 – 14:40
    • This one’s okay to miss, honestly I think the real move is we, as a group, all see Riordan to kick off the day
  • Riordan 15:00 – 16:15
  • Fuji Kaze 16:30 – 17:20 VS Baby J 14:15 – 17:20
    • Assuming Bella and Aaron are staying at Baby J, this’ll be a choice between hanging with them vs seeing a prolific Japanese pop artist. I’m okay making this decision on the fly
  • Starjunk 95 17:20 – 18:25 (leave early for Geese)
  • Geese 18:15 – 19:00
  • FOOD BREAK 19:00 – 19:50
  • Nine Inch Noize 20:00 – 20:45
  • The Strokes 21:00 – 22:10
  • Interpol 22:15 – 23:15
  • Worship VS Surprise DoLab
    • Worship is a guaranteed W and our most likely choice to close it out as a group but who knows, what if someone crazy comes on,, we’ll stay tuned. Either way it’ll be nice to have minimal crowds re Justin Bieber closing the main. I only feel a little bit bad about missing him.

REVIEW: Much higher energy day, a little grimy even. I like it. A lot of acts that I know more by name than by their actual discography = very exciting.

Sunday

  • The idea is to eat as much as possible at breakfast to clear out the fridge + I likely won’t be very hungry for physiological reasons
  • Samia 15:15 – 15:55
  • Wet Leg 14:45 – 17:30
  • Los Retros VS Oklou VS Carlita + wander
    • At this point I’ll be starting to melt so it’ll truly be a vibe check
  • Foster the People 18:45 – 19:40
  • Drain VS Tomora + wander
  • Laufey VS FKA Twigs
  • Whethan VS Karol G VS Kaskade

REVIEW: Day of the wanderer! I’ll be operating on a different axis so I’m excited to see where the day will take me. A platonically ideal Coachella day. I wanna see something weird.
